On this week’s episode of Real Talk With Outperformers, Brad welcomes Stephen Hoiles. Stephen is a former Rugby Pro, turned entrepreneur! Along with his co-founders, Stephen founded Recoverie - which is a Wellness & Recovery Studio designed to help you feel your best and optimize physical and mental health

Stephen’s Journey to Recoverie

Stephen, who has a background in professional rugby, transitioned into the business world after realizing that he wanted to have something set up for after his rugby career ended – and he wasn’t too keen on a 9-5. He started his journey in the wellness industry by opening a recovery center that offers group wellness services such as ice baths, hot baths, saunas, compression boots, hyperbaric chambers, and dry float beds. This venture has experienced significant success and growth, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the importance of health and wellness - with more people seeking out ways to boost their immune systems, reduce stress, and improve their overall well-being.

Wellness and recovery for everyone.

The concept of wellness and recovery for everyone is an important one, as it emphasizes the importance of taking care of one's physical and mental well-being. In today's fast-paced and stressful world, many people are in need of ways to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate their bodies and minds. By providing a space where individuals can access a variety of wellness services, such as infrared saunas, cryotherapy, and other recovery treatments, Recoverie aims to help people feel their best and improve their overall quality of life.

One of the key aspects of this concept is the idea of making these services accessible to everyone, not just elite athletes or those with disposable income. By offering affordable options and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, Recoverie seeks to democratize wellness and make it available to a wider audience. This approach aligns with the growing trend towards holistic health and well-being, where people are increasingly seeking alternative therapies and treatments to improve their overall health and vitality.

Expanding into the USA

One of the key takeaways from this episode is the perception of the USA as a land of opportunities. Stephen noted that the American market offers a larger customer base and more opportunities for success compared to the Australian market. The competitive landscape in the USA was seen as less saturated in this niche, with fewer direct competitors offering similar services. This presents a unique opportunity for Recoverie to establish itself as a leader in the industry and achieve significant growth and success.

Stephen also highlighted the importance of adapting to the cultural and business differences when expanding into a new market. He mentioned that the American consumers were more engaged and excited about new offerings and success stories. This positive reception can be attributed to the American culture of embracing innovation and entrepreneurship, which creates a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. Recoverie is set to open it’s first USA studios soon…

Embracing the partner model over franchise.

The partner model over franchise model is a unique approach to business expansion that offers several benefits for both the business owner and the partner. Brad and Stephen discuss the decision to opt for a partner model rather than a franchise model for Recoverie. This decision was based on the complexity of their business, which involves heavy pools with water, plumbing, engineering aspects, and sanitary requirements.

One of the key advantages of the partner model is the level of commitment and skin in the game that partners have. Unlike franchisees who may simply pay a fee and open a location, partners are more deeply invested in the success of the business. They are involved in the day-to-day operations, decision-making processes, and financial investments, which can lead to a stronger sense of ownership and dedication.

Additionally, the partner model allows for a more personalized and hands-on approach to business growth. By working closely with a select number of partners who each own multiple studios, the business can ensure consistency in branding, operations, and customer experience across all locations. This can lead to a stronger brand presence and customer loyalty, as customers recognize and appreciate the consistency and quality of service provided by the partner-owned studios.
